The cover story of the February 2015 issue of Cabin Life Magazine highlights the 2009 construction of a beloved family cabin located on the western shores of Lake George.
The feature, titled “Capturing Days Gone By”, tells the story of Jeff and Patti Broyzna and the Broyzna clan’s long history of summers spent with family in Bolton, NY since the 1930s. A cabin constructed in 1946 remained a destination spot for six generations of the Broyzna family, but in 2009 owners Jeff and Patti realized extensive repairs were needed. They turned to Schrader and Company and architecture firm Architex to lovingly tear down and then reconstruct a rustic but energy-efficient cabin in this sacred place in their family’s history.
The stunning results are featured in their full-color glory in the article, alongside family photos, blueprints highlighting modernizations and improvements, and even a cherished Broyzna family recipe.
The article is a fascinating and insightful glimpse into the hard work and logistics involved in such a nuanced project; one where concerns of nature, construction, design, historical accuracy, and deep family emotional ties must all be considered and blended seamlessly to achieve success. That hard work paid off, in both the owner’s obvious pride and delight in their new cabin, and in accolades. The project won the Capital Region Builders and Remodelers Association award for “Coolest Project” in 2013.
