A Front Porch that Welcomes and Wows

We all want our homes to have curb appeal, but it’s even better when our porches, patios, and decks add real outdoor living spaces to our homes. This front porch transformation not only leveled-up the appearance of this house, but created a new way for our clients to relax and enjoy nature on a daily basis.

These clients had several goals for their front porch renovation project.

They love the outdoors, and wanted more space to enjoy a cup of coffee or read in the fresh air. They also wanted to balance out the home’s exterior. Their garage projects forward onto their property, and it felt aesthetically dominant compared to their previous entryway. By extending the new front porch outward, a more balanced look was achieved. We partnered with an architect on the project, who did an excellent job of designing the porch in total cohesion with the existing structure. It looks like it was always part of the original home design.

Our skilled team easily navigated the inherent challenges of working on exterior additions, like matching roof lines. We also worked with a special underground utility company to locate and safely work around all underground utility lines; a subcontractor that we can now utilize on other projects.

In order to ensure that this beautiful new porch will last under harsh Northeastern weather conditions, our clients chose maintenance-free PVC tongue and groove porch flooring, which is a great floor material for something that’s under cover. To ensure safety and durability for the porch’s star feature–the expansive swing–we installed special framing in the ceiling to properly support the weight.

Our clients love their increased curb appeal, and that their guests can enter their home through this new polished, welcoming front porch. But the real benefit has been to their everyday living, where they can enjoy the outdoors comfortably as often as they like. It has truly changed their family’s lifestyle for the better.

A Beautiful New Deck Adds Outdoor Living Space

We like to make the most of our temperate seasons here in upstate New York, and time spent relaxing or entertaining on decks and porches are some of the best ways to enjoy spring, summer, and fall. While we find ourselves in the thick of winter, let’s go behind the scenes of this deck renovation and daydream of sunnier days to come.

For this project, we removed a weathered, treated deck at the back of the home, and built a new deck with composite decking, aluminum railing, and a new pergola.

We added quite a bit of square footage, additional access points, and removed a second floor balcony while updating the look of the entire back of the home.

The back of this house includes a walk-out basement, and the area beneath the existing deck included a concrete slab that we needed to work around. The size and scope of this deck project was considerable, which required expert planning.

The black aluminum rail work really pops against the composite decking, and the project created so much usable space for the clients to entertain their friends and family.

Our clients thoroughly enjoyed their first season with their new, expansive outdoor living space, and we know they’ll continue to enjoy it for many years to come.
