Burnt Hills, NY – March 2014
Schrader and Company Construction Services kicked off 2014 in an exciting partnership with students from Union College’s Masters of Business Administration Program. Three MBA candidates in their final course of study have spent the past ten weeks collaborating with Schrader and Company’s leaders to develop a business plan as part of the students’ Capstone course.
The purpose of the Capstone course is to integrate the knowledge that students have acquired throughout their MBA study and apply it to a real company. Lindsey Marquard, Ashley Braniecki, and Magen Renadette have met weekly with Schrader and Company leaders to carefully evaluate current company practices and develop a detailed future business plan. This symbiotic relationship benefits both parties.
“Our goal in participating in this program is to grow and strengthen our company as well as continue to build relationships with the future business leaders in our community,” said Schrader and Company President Ben Cangeleri. “What we can offer is an intimate experience of the unique challenges and benefits of small business operations, and we hope the students have learned
as much from us as we have learned from them.”
“We are grateful to have had the opportunity to work with Peter, Christy, Silas, and Ben. The experience has allowed us to gain insight, firsthand, into the inner workings of their business,
and to put to practice the skills we have developed throughout our studies,” said Ashley Braniecki.
Participation in the Capstone course is just one forward-thinking measure implemented by Schrader and Company in the wake of their 40th anniversary and the rise of new leadership. Recent developments include updating the company’s name and logo, adding to the talented field team of professional craftsmen, and implementing Computer Aided Design into project planning.
“The Capstone program offered us a great opportunity to be reflective about our future goals and to take a metaphorical step back from the busy day-to-day operations and think about the big picture”, said Vice-President Silas Schrader. “It’s been a very rewarding experience.”

As McCormick Carpentry, Brian successfully built the first home in New York to achieve both NAHB’s Emerald Certification and LEED Platinum Certification. Brian holds many industry designations including Certified Graduate Remodeler (CGR,) Certified Green Professional (CGP), and Certified Aging in Place Specialist (CAPS). When Brian is not working with us or on his personal home, he enjoys spending time with his family and attending their local sporting events. We met Brian through the local builders association and knew he would be a good fit for our company. We are so pleased to have him on board.
Ross Marshall has joined our Construction Operation department as a Carpenter. Ross spent most of his career in the Essex, NY area as a self-employed carpenter and stone mason. Looking to experience another part of our beautiful country, Ross and his family moved to the Grand Canyon area of Arizona where Ross spent 5 years working for the Grand Canyon National Park Services as a lead stone mason and historic preservation carpenter. The architecture of the greater capital region eventually drew him back to our area, and Ross and his family currently reside in a historic home that has been in his family for generations. Ross is passionate about historic preservation and the application of sustainable and passive solar techniques to existing and historic homes. In his spare time, he enjoys being with his family and spending as much time outdoors as possible. We welcome Ross’s unique set of skills and passion for historical home preservation into our company.

In case you hadn’t already heard, all of us at Schrader and Company will be celebrating 40 years of improving our client’s homes throughout the greater Capital Region. In today’s world of disposable products and low quality service, it seems that both have sadly become the norm. And in some warped and desensitized way, most of us have come to accept this kind of woeful underperformance. Conversely, we look upon the things that continue to consistently deliver with great admiration and satisfaction.“Reliable” is a word that is often used when speaking about such people, products and organizations. These are the ones that stand the true test of time. And it is time that is most often the measure of reliable things. At Schrader and Company, we pride ourselves on being dependable, committed, and dedicated to our clients. Here are a few“time‐related” statistics which help to illustrate our mission:
The accomplishment of 40 successful years in business is significant and telling.
